Heavenly!

The Garden Gate is the fourth book in the Threshold series, the last and my favorite! Of course I said that about the first book, then the second one, and then the third one. But I can't help it the series just keeps getting better and better! I remember when I read the first books that I was slightly frustrated with the main character, Prissie, and her attitude towards some of the other characters. But now I feel proud of her and how far she's come since the beginning of the series.

After reading that last sentence again it sounds a little weird to say that I'm proud of a fictional character. But after 'getting to know' Prissie Pomeroy through the books I really am proud of her.
Being the last book in the Threshold series it was bittersweet reading it. I took much longer to read this book then the others in the series (which I read as fast as I could) because I didn't want Prissie's story to end. But it did and even though, as with all last books of series, I'm sad to see it end, it ended perfectly.

It Will Touch Your Heart

If there was ever an author who had her nose to the grind and the Holy Spirit guiding her fingers this author would be Mrs. Christa Kinde. I guarantee you, future Threshold readers, that you will NOT regret reading this amazing book nor the whole series. The Threshold Series has left me blushing madly, laughing till tears streamed down my face, and breathless on the edge of my chair. This is the series that will stick with you forever. Nearly every series I have read has left me restless and wanting more, but the Threshold Series will leave your soul, "longing, with a home-sickness for a place you have never been to. (Book One, page 205)" It is like a piece of Heaven. I would advise ANY young readers to OWN this book. The everyday lessons integrated in this book for young people is just astounding; it will give them courage when the secular people of this world turn on them, it will give them hope when people and things they hold most dear to their hearts are Sent away, and it will give them faith when the darkness is closing in on them.
The finale to the first series just blew my mind, and I hope after reading the whole series it will blow yours. This may be the ending of the first series, but this is only the first act of Mrs. Kinde's show. Have faith that this book will touch your heart and leave you craving for the Word of God and longing for a piece of Heaven.

First of all, I LOVE the Garden Gate, just like I absolutely adored the three former books in the series. Christa Kinde does a marvelous job of drawing the reader into Prissie's small-town world, as well as keeping the reader on the edge of their seat with danger, mystery, intrigue, excitement, and memorable characters.

Like I just mentioned, Mrs. Kinde has created real, relatable characters that you really care about. Ransom, Prissie, Koji, Marcus, Prissie's brothers, they all are awesome characters.

I recommend this book (and the book series) for ANYONE - whether boy or girl, young or old, no matter what genre of books you like.

Mrs. Kinde has created a wonderful, very well-written book. I would gladly read this book series again and again (and it's extremely likely that I will).

About the Author
J. Reid Meloy, Ph.D., is associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law.  A past president of the American Academy of Forensic Psychology, he is the author of numerous books and articles on psychopathy.  He currently devotes his time to a private civil and criminal forensic practive and to research, writing, and teaching in this area.

From David M. Levy's Primary Affect Hunger (1937) and Wilhelm Reich's The Phallic-Narcissistic Character (1933), to Ben Bursten's Some Narcissistic Personality Types (1973) and Otto F. Kemberg's The Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the Differential Diagnosis of Antisocial Behavior (1989), The Mark Of Cain offers a superbly presented historical survey of seminal, scholarly contributions that significantly contribute to our understanding of the complex inner world of the psychopath and the necessity of a clinical realism in dealing with the deception, manipulation, exploitation, and physical danger psychopathic patients present to the therapist.

Excellent academic resource

I agree with everything that the above reviewer says, and I especially enjoyed reading essays written in the first half of the twentieth century. The discussions are lucid and rigorous for those of us who prefer to avoid the more anecdotal, "pop" psychology approach and opt for a more in-depth description of these pathologies and their etiologies.

Folgerichtig überträgt sich diese Erwartungshaltung auf die Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, die als einer der klassischen Vertreter des Totalitarismus gilt. Bei oberflächlicher Betrachtung ergibt sich zunächst der erwartungsgemäße Eindruck, dass die Design- aber vor allem auch die Schriftpolitik im Sinne der nationalsozialistischen Ideologie gesteuert sind, wobei sich schon hier mit dem Verbot der Fraktur 1941 ein merkwürdiger Bruch offenbart. In der intensiveren Auseinandersetzung kristallisiert sich eine bemerkenswerte Vielschichtigkeit und Widersprüchlichkeit heraus, die weit über diesen einen »Bruch« hinausweist. So liegt es nahe, nicht nur nach der Instrumentalisierung typografischer Gestaltung im Nationalsozialismus zu fragen, sondern auch danach, ob und inwieweit bestimmte Phänomene Zeiterscheinungen sind, die in der Phase nach der Machtergreifung 1933 eine Fortsetzung erfuhren.
Ausgehend von eben jener Fragestellung nach Instrumentalisierung oder Zeiterscheinung ist es Ziel dieser Arbeit, »kaschierte Kontinuitäten« und Diskrepanzen zwischen offiziell propagierter Politik und tatsächlicher Umsetzung in der Praxis exemplarisch aufzuzeigen und innerhalb der Felder Instrumentalisierung oder Zeiterscheinung zu verorten.

This study examines the attitude of Egyptian intellectuals toward the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in modern Egypt. At the root of the fundamentalists' doctrine lie the call for a return to Islam and the teachings of Mohammad, and the establishment of an Islamic government which applies Islamic law, the Sharia. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Egypt had witnessed the flourishing of a modernist trend, started and encouraged by Mohammad Ali, which embraced many facets of Egyptian life including science, technology, literature and the emancipation of women. The emergence of the Islamic Brothers' Movement proved a powerful counter-reaction to such modernism for its members held that Western values were a source of evil and the cause of all Egypt's ills. Though at first adopting a moderate approach, the movement became more aggressive in the 1940s and 1950s, especially during the period immediately before and following the assassination of its leader Hasan Al-Banna and the accession of Sayyid Qutb as its spiritual head. Since the 1970s, the teachings in Qutb's book, Milestones, have become the covenant for all Egypt's militant Islamic organizations, including Al-Jihad, the extreme Islamic group behind the assassination of President Sadat in 1981. This book surveys the writings of over 20 Egyptian liberal intellectuals on issues such as the implementation of the Sharia, the rule of Allah and the Islamic state, the caliphate, Jihad, the West, Israel, Jews and Christians, and science. While still contending that Islam is the basis for every aspect of life in Egypt, they are united in their belief that the establishment of an Islamic state would signify a return to theMiddle Ages. They emphasize that Western values do not necessarily contradict Islam, and that without taking advantage of Western scientific and technical progress, Egypt will never solve its social and economic problems. It remains to be seen to what extent their arguments will be allowed to affect development in Egypt.

Joseph D. Lichtenberg, M.D., is Editor-in-Chief of Psychoanaytic Inquiry, Director Emeritus of the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and past President of the International Council for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology.  He has authored and edited numerous books and articles, including Craft and Spirit: A Guide to the Exploratory Psychotherapies (Analytic Press, 2005) and, with Frank Lachmann and James Fosshage,  A Sprit of Inquiry: Communication in Psychoanalysis (Analytic Press, 2002).

An absolute masterpiece

Lichtenberg wrote this book after deep research both with patients in the consulting room and reviewing the psychoanalytic litterature extensiveley. The result is unmatched in many ways. Lichtenberg explains here a system of personality that provides meaning to classical psychoanalysis as well as other therapies. I want to stress the importance of the systematic approach because it is useful not only for analysts, but also for social workers, coaches and so on.

Personnally I feel this is one of the books I have learnt most from and would be inmediately debtful to the author for it.
