Storming the Black Ice (Pacific Rim Series Book 3), by Don Brown

When British geologists discover the world's largest oil reserves under the desolate, icy tundra of Antarctica, Britain and Chile form a top-secret alliance for control of petroleum resources that will rival the economic power of OPEC.

But when their discovery is uncovered by an Argentinean intelligence officer, a surprise-attack against a secret British outpost in Antarctica triggers a war. Britain and Chile are in a military standoff against Venezuela and Argentina, and when the war escalates, Britain asks America for help.

For two couples separated by the battle, the outcome will be either love reunited or devastating heartbreak.

For a young British boy living with his mother in London, his father’s life is on the line.

And for Pete Miranda, an American sub commander detailed on a special military assignment to his father's homeland of Chile, will his fate be a crushing death under the icy-cold waters of the Antarctic Ocean, or a future of life, light, and a second chance for love?

“. . . the realistic scenes of submarine warfare and daring escapes, along with family love and romance make this a surefire hit for fans of military, war, and suspense novels.” (CBD Retailers + Resources)

About the Author
Don Brown is the author of Thunder in the Morning Calm, The Malacca Conspiracy, The Navy Justice Series, and Black Sea Affair, a submarine thriller that predicted the 2008 shooting war between Russia and Georgia. Don served five years in the U.S. Navy as an officer in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, which gave him an exceptional vantage point into the Navy and the inner workings of "inside-the-beltway" as an action officer assigned to the Pentagon. He left active duty in 1992 to pursue private practice, but remained on inactive status through 1999, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He and his family live in North Carolina, where he pursues his passion for penning novels about the Navy.

A Must Read!!
By Elisabeth
What does every human being fear? Is it a broker like Bernie Madoff? Is it a summer television season without Game of Thrones? Is it death? What about death, by WWIII?

The stakes are off the charts in Don Brown's latest tome, Storming the Black Ice. In this thrill ride to rival the Hulk at Universal, Brown pits four military superpowers in a battle to the death at the bottom of the world and the South Atlantic Ocean. The novel opens as allies--Britain and Chile--secretly hold claim to the world's largest oil reserves under the frozen mantle of Antarctica, until an Argentinean intelligence officer eavesdrops, leading Venezuelan forces (Argentina's ally) to attack the British Camp Churchill, under the able command of witty and handsome Aussie, Austin Rivers.

Austin and his ragtag group of scientists are captured, which sets the stage for one of the most maniacal and love-to-hate villains of Author Brown's to date in Navy Capitan Jose Montes, Commando de Aviacion Naval Argentina. (Folks, you are going to want to spend time with this man--or monster, whatever you prefer.)

Meanwhile a fifth superpower namely the United States stays just out of the fray, monitoring but inserting itself only in the able and hunky body of one Pete Miranda, sub commander extraordinaire of The Black Sea Affair. Yes, Author Brown brings back this much-loved hero from his previous bestseller and Pete does not disappoint. He dodges the deft Venezuelan sub commander, jokes with his superiors and flirts with his alluring Chilean love interest, Maria Vasquez.

Add to the two aforementioned heroes and lady loves--Austin has a girl-who-got-away back in London and a son, a third hero in Bob Hudson and his love interest, Shelley, and the sparks are flying. No reader will be cold and alone this winter with this page-turner. So pick up Storming the Black Ice before the last flakes of snow melt and the rest of Don Brown's novels to fill the spring and summer hours. Your pulse will race and your palms may get sweaty, but as a famous someone once said, you'll have nothing to fear except fear itself. Happy Reading!

I got a little lost in this storm
By dtalen
What if the largest untapped reserve of oil was found underneath Antarctica? Would that discovery set the foundation for the largest military war in the history of the world? Storming the Black Ice fictionalizes what that reality could be like.

In Storming the Black Ice, Austin Rivers is on assignment at a British outpost in Antarctica when it is attacked by Special Forces from Argentina. This attack leads to war at sea between the British and their allies from Chile and Argentina and their allies from Venezuela. The battle ensues and ships and subs are lost. The British are finally forced to seek help from the United States. Can this battle end before more lives are lost and more families are separated forever?

I feel like I am sort of on the fence about this book. It was a pretty interesting story and I really enjoyed learning a bit more about life in Antarctica. But, I think the book was too military to really excite me. There was too much jargon, too many maps inserted in the book. The characters seemed a bit flat and all of their relationships moved a bit fast. I don’t think I will be reading the rest of the books in this series. But, if you like military books, this would probably be a good one for you.

Wonderful! Suspenseful! Grand Read!
By Tammy's Book Parlor
WOW! What a read! This is the first book I've had the privilege to read by Don Brown and it won't be my last. Even though this is the third book in the Pacific Rim I wasn't lost. But I do plan to go read books 1 & 2.
This read is filled with faith, military people and geologists, cold weather, diving in freezing waters and love. What a mix!
This story had me on the edge of my seat at times. It was a spell bounding read. I truly wondered at times if some of these things may have really happened, after all Mr. Brown is a former JAG officer!
The waters of Antarctic are described so well I could feel that hands of ice gripping my extremities. Great imagery!
The romance in this read is light but yet gives the reader a sense of how much love there is between a man and a woman.
The whole story brings a great mixture of suspense and action together somewhat like a great salad that blends just the right amount of feta cheese with roasted turkey and balsamic dressing...delightful!
