A year’s worth of novellas from twelve inspirational romance authors. Happily ever after guaranteed.
War changed everything . . . even their love.
Bride-to-be Stella Carson cannot wait another day to marry her longtime sweetheart, Marshall Henderson. But her plans fall to pieces when she receives the terrible news that Marshall has suffered a near-fatal head wound while serving overseas. Diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, he asks to recover privately in a D.C. hospital, and Stella gives him space to heal. But when Marshall returns home to Louisiana, it becomes clear to them both that he is not the man he used to be.
Marshall's memories of home have disappeared, and he suffers from violent, vivid nightmares night after night. Struggling to regain their life together, Stella reintroduces him to their town, reminding him of his history and their love story and watching glimpses of recognition dance in his eyes. But there is one dark corner in his memory, one important part he can’t remember: his life with Stella.
With only weeks until the wedding, Stella and Marshall must choose between a marriage built on the past and faith in long-ago love or a very different future than the one Stella imagined.
“As a romance writer, there's nothing more exciting than writing about a wedding. I was a March bride, so writing a wedding set in the same month was perfect." —Rachel Hauck, author of A March Bride

I really felt for both of the main characters.
By Melanie
I've been enjoying the Year of Wedding novellas and I really liked the storyline for An April Bride. Unfortunately, while I liked the story a lot, I wasn't a fan of the writing style and how characters would say something and then shortly thereafter seem to have forgotten what was said earlier/changed their mind. It got a little frustrating to me.
I really felt for both of the main characters. I have a soft spot for books dealing with amnesia/memory loss, because I can't imagine how horrible it would be to not remember your loved ones. The romance between Marshall and Stella was sweet. I enjoyed "watching" them work through their struggles to try and find the love and memories Marshall lost. It was great the way Stella helped Marshall try to remember things without pushing too hard.
Overall, An April Bride was a good story. I enjoyed reading it and recommend it to fans of contemporary novellas.

Another sweet contribution in A Year of Weddings
By Kathie @First Page to the Last Book Reviews
This is another in the "A Year of Weddings" series published by Zondervan - Fiction. Each of these novellas focus on a wedding and the trials and tribulations leading up to the event. These are nicely clean, but have some UST for our reading enjoyment. Kisses can be FUN! They are also inspirational, but they don't beat you over the head about it. Again, nicely done.
I am certainly enjoying these novellas. This one, with a returning soldier, was quite good. There was a bit of "telling" as opposed to "showing" at the beginning, but I liked it anyway. It's difficult to put everything IN that is needed when one is constrained by a novella word count.
Marshall has been injured and asks that his fiancee not visit him as he's recuperating. He has a brain injury. We come to find out that he's lost his memory and doesn't remember his bride-to-be.
Stella doesn't find this out until he returns, just weeks before the wedding they've planned. This was by his request, but still, I would have been ticked.
Marshall is attracted to Stella. She's everything a bride should be. Sweet and devout...and pretty, too. By all accounts he's loved her forever. And he wants to honor his promise.
Stella's not sure of anything except the fact that she loves him. But what if he doesn't remember her? Ever?
Stella needed to do some growing, and when she finally does, I was quite proud of her.
There were a few time line issues, but all in all, this was an enjoyable read. One thing that is odd with the review copies from Zondervan, is that many of the sentences don't begin with capital letters! It's odd and takes a bit to get into the flow of reading. The actual books have that issue taken care of, but still hard to read the review copies.
This is a FOUR BOOKMARK read for me.

So far-fetched.
By Kayla
Now, I understand loyalty and I respect people who stand by their true love through extreme hardships that most people couldn't withstand. However, this story was a bit far fetched. I mean, if your soldier fiance is away and gets injured, then doesn't want you to see him, wouldn't you get a bit suspicious? To top it off, he comes home and is like a completely different person and you have to get to know each other again but you keep your wedding date which is in less than a month?
It was just ridiculous. It was an enjoyable read, but the whole time I was like, "WHY ISN'T ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING? THIS IS INSANE." I don't want to sound like a jerk but my suspension of disbelief only goes so far. It is no longer acceptable to marry someone who is basically a stranger. If one of my friends met a guy and said she was marrying him in a few weeks I'd be throwing up red flags everywhere. It just didn't feel real.
Beyond that, Marshall was so emotionally and psychologically fragile that it didn't feel he was stable enough to enter into marriage. It wasn't fair to either him or Stella to have such a lopsided relationship.
The book ended fine, but I strenuously objected to basically everything that was happening the entire time, and that's quite an exhausting way to read a book!
Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for review!
