Very useful when doing psychoeducational work with wounded clients

For years, I have been using Terry Hargrave's book as a basis for seminars I lead in prison and church settings. Many persons are imprisoned by their family histories and many persons in prison are freer than those walking the streets because they have done the plain hard work of examining the shame and pain of their rearing. Hargrave's four-stage approach to understanding the work of forgiving is important in helping others move beyond the traps of their family secrets and myths. This is not a theological work but it lends itself well to use in helping faithful persons forgive authentically.

Healing Families and Restoring Hope

Terry Hargrave has a long history of helping families through their painful times. In his experience, he has gained some marvelous insights. Hargrave's approach is understandable and on a common sense level that people can understand. His approach is not one filled with blaming of others or society. Instead it focuses on overcoming the hurts and learning how to forgive within families. Many times those people who we love the most can also inflict the most hurtful pains. Hargrave's book provides a step-by-step program to forgiving those hurts. I have used his material over the years and can attest that they are proven with the families that have chosen to apply them. If you are hurt or know people who are hurting from their families, this book is a valuable tool.
